Sally Snyder grew up in the small town of Hicksville, Ohio.  One of her favorite pastimes was drawing and coloring.  She also enjoyed “shooting baskets” with her brother, walking on wooden stilts that her uncle “Fuzzy” made for her, jumping rope, and taking tap dancing lessons from Mrs. Wahl.  She loved growing up at a time when it was safe to ride her bicycle almost anywhere in town.  She often rode her bike to her grandmother’s house or stopped by Osmun’s Dairy to see her father.  Sometimes those ventures meant a trip to Garver’s, the local drug store, for two double chocolate marshmallow sundaes, one for her and one for her mother!
Following an active elementary and high school career, Sally entered Defiance College, a small liberal arts school located in Defiance, Ohio.  This historic community of 17,000 is nestled beside the confluence of the scenic Auglaize and Maumee Rivers.  Because she loved working with children, Sally decided to become a teacher and in 1962 she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  While attending DC, she met her future husband, Mike.

After teaching one year, Sally and Mike were married and both were hired as teachers in Quincy, Michigan.  In 1964 their first daughter, Kim, was born.  Kelly entered the world two years later, after her daddy had taken a new coaching job.  Kristin was their little Christmas bundle in 1967.  Believing their family was complete, to their surprise they were gifted with a son, Scott, five years later!
In 1974 the family returned to Defiance where Mike was hired by the college as instructor and head football coach. Sally eventually returned to the teaching field completing twenty-five fulfilling years.  After retirement in 2001, she was encouraged by her family to write and illustrate her first book, Hold the Fort.
Sally is active in her church and community.  She serves on the Defiance City Schools Foundation and the Andrew Tuttle Memorial Museum Board.  She is a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Mutual Improvement Circle, Ohioana Library Association and Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
She enjoys spending time with her wonderful family, playing golf with Mike, gardening, writing and illustrating, and playing with their little black and white malti-poo, Molly.
